Glider Pilot Training (SPL)
Aeroclub Soběslav currently provides glider pilot training on the proven L-23 Super Blaník glider.
Soaring is the purest form of flight – a glider has no engine and relies exclusively on natural energy sources, primarily thermal updrafts. Glider pilots can fly hundreds of kilometers and reach altitudes over 5,000 metres in these conditions. The Sailplane Pilot Licence (SPL) is issued under EU regulations and is valid in all EASA member states.
Requirements
- Medical: LAPL medical certificate from an authorized aviation medical examiner. Glasses are not an obstacle.
- Age: Training from 14 years, solo flights and license from 16 years. Written parental consent required for those under 18.
- Training: Minimum 15 flight hours (13 dual + 2 solo), 60 hours of theory.
- Cost: Approximately 40,000 CZK (about 1,600 EUR).
Training process
Training takes place at Aeroclub Soběslav airfield, mainly on weekends. The training combines winch launches and aerotow launches behind our Zlín Z-226MS tow plane. After completing the syllabus, you'll take theoretical and practical exams with an inspector.
Training aircraft
Training is conducted on the L-23 Super Blaník (OK-0229), a two-seat all-metal training glider used worldwide. After obtaining your license, you can transition to higher-performance single-seat gliders such as the ASW-15, ASW-19B, or VSO-10 Gradient.
